We have decided to break down and explain the ingredients included in our sunscreen formula due to some unusual chemical names listed in the ingredients panel.
Due to the nature of this product, we have included naturally occurring mineral UV filters, supported by other ingredients that act as emulsifiers. Emulsifiers are essential in sunscreen as they help keep ingredients harmoniously mixed and distribute the UV actives to ensure your skin is evenly protected from the sun.

Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, organic: We use organic extra virgin coconut oil, which is cold-pressed and extracted from the fresh, white inner meat of the coconut. It imparts a characteristic sweet, nutty aroma to the final product. It is an effective emollient with moisturising and hydrating properties.
Zinc oxide: A mineral UV filter, providing broad-spectrum and SPF protection. Zinc Oxide is a mineral with a long history of use in sun protection and is the safest ingredient to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV radiation. Natural protective and anti-inflammatory properties mean it is also commonly used to treat many skin conditions. Using pharmaceutical-grade zinc oxide as one of the active ingredients in our sunscreen makes it biodegradable and safer for oceans, reefs and coral. It is not absorbed into the skin, and therefore, it is non-irritating, non-allergenic, and non-comedogenic.
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, organic: Castor oil is rich in skin moisturising properties. It promotes the growth of healthy skin tissues and can help smoothen and soften skin texture. It has been used for centuries worldwide to provide hydration to the skin, and is especially popular in drier climates.
Coco Caprylate: A 100% natural ingredient, it can be considered a true botanical alternative for silicones. Derived from coconut and approved by natural certifications worldwide, it is a light and fast-absorbing emollient (helps to moisturise and soften the skin) that spreads quickly and leaves a pleasant, dry skin feel. This ingredient also acts as an emulsifier.
Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, organic: Extracted from the seeds of the African Karite tree, it is a nourishing fair-trade butter that acts as an emollient to soften and hydrate the skin.
Medium Chain Triglycerides, organic, a.k.a fractionated coconut oil or liquid coconut oil: Medium chain triglycerides is a 100% natural ingredient extracted from coconut oil. It is odourless, lightweight, and nourishing oil with a unique chemical characteristic. It is a naturally rich source of antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and an excellent skin conditioner with a non-greasy feel that leaves a silky skin complexion and is suitable for all skin types.
Titanium Dioxide: A naturally occurring compound, this non-toxic mineral UV filter provides broad spectrum and SPF protection. Approved by COSMOS (an international standard for organic and natural cosmetics). Optimal performance when combined with zinc oxide.
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, organic: An organic oil with a similar makeup to our skin's sebum, it absorbs easily and is ideal for all skin types. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties, making it helpful for eczema, psoriasis, and inflamed skin.
Cera alba, organic, a.k.a beeswax: A 100% natural and renewable product, it has been included to add viscosity to the final product.
Sorbitan Olivate: Naturally derived from olive oil with sorbitol, a naturally derived moistener, from vegetable sugars. It is biodegradable, non-toxic and non-irritant. It's very mild and gives products a smooth and luxurious feel. This ingredient also acts as an emulsifier.
Tocopheryl Acetate, a.k.a vitamin E: Our Vitamin E is natural and non-GMO and used to preserve polyunsaturated fatty acids and oils from oxidation and to extend shelf life. It's antioxidant properties that may also benefit the skin.
Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate: A skin-friendly emulsifier produced from castor oil. It is included in this formulation to emulsify the physical UV filters properly.
Isostearic Acid: It is a naturally sourced ingredient and is completely biodegradable. One of the most common saturated fatty acids, it is a mixture of oleic acid and stearic acid, natural fatty acids from vegetable fats and oils with exceptional thermal stability. Isostearic acid has softening properties and gives products a silky feel. This ingredient also acts as an emulsifier.
Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil, organic: Included in this formulation as a nod to our original formula but also to repel the common mosquito.
